Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain tires can lose tread
critical How serious is it? About this label
Very serious — tread coming off a tire can happen suddenly at speed and make you lose control of the vehicle, so get the tires checked right away even though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
Some of these SUVs left the factory on Hankook tires that were not made correctly. The tires did not get enough of the chemical that hardens the rubber properly. Because of that, the tread — the grooved part that grips the road — can peel away from the rest of the tire while you are driving. A dealer will read the date and identification code stamped on each tire and swap out any that are affected.
