Chrysler windshield bonding and wiper problems: what owners need to know
Two different problems account for these three recalls, and one of them repeats. Windshields that were not properly bonded to the body — a failure to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 212 — hit the 2020-2021 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Challenger first, then returned in 2024 on the Pacifica and Voyager minivans. The fix differs: the sedans and coupes get the urethane sealant removed and replaced, while the 2024 vans get a whole new windshield. The third recall is smaller in scope, covering 2022 Pacifica and Voyager wiper arm nuts that may be loose enough to stop the wipers working. Pacifica and Voyager appear in two of the three; all three are rated medium.
Warning signs to watch for
- Wipers that do not function properly, or quit in rain or snow
- A wiper arm that feels loose or no longer sweeps the way it should
- Nothing at all from the two windshield recalls — the notices describe no symptom you can see or feel while driving
- With the windshield defect, the danger shows up only in a crash, when the glass may detach
Is it safe to keep driving?
No recall in this group carries a stop-driving or park-outside order. The two windshield recalls affect crash protection only: the 2024 Pacifica and Voyager notice states plainly that the van drives normally and you can keep driving it, and the same reasoning applies to the 2020-2021 300, Charger and Challenger. The wiper recall is different in practice — improperly tightened arm nuts can leave you without wipers in rain or snow, which cuts visibility and raises crash risk. Drive the 2022 vans as usual, but get the nuts tightened before the next storm.
What the free repair involves
The work differs by recall. On the 2020-2021 Chrysler 300, Charger and Challenger, dealers remove and replace the front windshield urethane sealant. On the 2024 Pacifica and Voyager, they replace the windshield outright. On the 2022 Pacifica and Voyager, they simply tighten the wiper arm nuts. There is no software or over-the-air element to any of these, and all three repairs are free of charge.

What does FMVSS 212 have to do with my windshield?
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 212 governs windshield retention in a crash. Both Chrysler windshield recalls here are noncompliance recalls: because the glass was not properly bonded to the body, it could detach in a crash, so the vehicles fail that standard.
Will my whole windshield be replaced, or just resealed?
It depends which recall you are in. The 2020-2021 300, Charger and Challenger get the front windshield urethane sealant removed and replaced. The 2024 Pacifica and Voyager get a new windshield. Either way the dealer does the work free of charge.
Do the 2022 Pacifica and Voyager get new wipers?
No. That recall is about wiper arm nuts that may be improperly tightened, which can stop the wipers working properly. Dealers simply tighten the nuts, free of charge. Owner letters went out August 30, 2022; FCA's line is 1-800-853-1403.
