Is your Chrysler backup camera blank or stuck on screen?
Every one of these five Chrysler recalls includes the Pacifica, and they split into two failure modes. In two, the rearview image lingers on the radio screen after you shift out of reverse: 2018-2019 Pacificas with the 8.4-inch radio, 360-degree surround view camera and seat-back video screens, and a broader 2019-2020 group that also swept in Jeep, Ram and Dodge models with 8.4-inch or 12-inch displays. In the other three the image never appears at all — radio software on 2021-2023 Pacifica and Voyager, a manufacturing fault in the camera itself on 2023 vans, and a contaminated or misprogrammed central vision processing module on 2019 and 2023 Pacificas. The blank-screen notices are cited as failures of federal rear visibility standard FMVSS 111.
Warning signs to watch for
- The camera picture stays on the radio screen after you shift out of reverse and drive away
- A blank screen when you shift into reverse, instead of the view behind the vehicle
- Everything else behaves normally — these notices describe no change in how the vehicle drives, steers or brakes
- No dashboard warning light is mentioned in any of these notices; the screen itself is the only clue
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these five recalls carries a stop-driving or park-outside order, and the notices say the vehicles drive and brake normally. These are the mildest recalls on this list, but they are still real crash risks around people: a blank screen means you cannot see a child or object behind you, and an image that lingers after you pull away can distract you enough to cause a crash. Keep driving, use your mirrors, look over your shoulder before reversing, and book the free repair.
What the free repair involves
It depends which recall applies. Most are software: dealers reflash the radio, or update the central vision processing module. Two of them offer an over-the-air update instead — the 2020 recall made OTA optional from May 1, 2020, and the 2024 radio software recall could be delivered OTA. Where hardware is at fault, dealers inspect and replace the rearview camera or the vision module. All free of charge.

Common questions
Can I get this fixed without a dealer visit?
Sometimes. The 2020 lingering-image recall offered an optional over-the-air update from May 1, 2020, and the 2024 radio software recall could be applied OTA or by a dealer. The camera and vision module recalls require a dealer.
My 2019 Pacifica shows up in more than one of these. Why?
The 2019 Pacifica appears in both lingering-image recalls and again in the 2026 central vision processing module recall. They are different defects with different repairs, so check your VIN with Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
Is a van with a dead backup camera still street legal?
The notices state these vehicles fail to comply with FMVSS 111, the federal rear visibility standard — that is why they were recalled. No notice tells owners to stop driving, but get the free repair and reverse using your mirrors meanwhile.
