The two gas-filled cylinders that hold your Outlander's rear hatch open can corrode and lose pressure. When that happens, the hatch may not stay up — it can fall unexpectedly while you are loading groceries or reaching into the back. In some cases the cylinder itself can burst. Either one can injure whoever is standing there. Mitsubishi will replace both the left and right liftgate struts at no cost. This recall adds vehicles beyond an earlier one, so check yours again.

Over time one can burst, or the hatch can drop without warning while you are loading groceries or standing behind the car. This applies only to vehicles sold or registered in states that salt their roads in winter. Your dealer will replace both struts, left and right, at no cost to you. Letters went out October 6, 2025.

A software error in the dashboard screen system can make the backup camera picture freeze on an old image or not appear at all. If you rely on that screen when reversing, you may not see a child, a pet, or another vehicle behind you. Federal rules require a working rear camera view, so these vehicles do not meet the standard. The dealer reloads the screen software for free. This replaces an earlier recall, so cars fixed under that one need the new fix too.

On some 2014-2019 Mitsubishi Outlander and 2018-2019 Outlander PHEV SUVs, the middle seat belt buckle in the second row can bump into the buckle for the right-side seat when the seat backs are folded down. That can knock the cover off the right-side buckle. Once the cover comes off, the buckle will not latch, so the person sitting there cannot buckle up at all.

The seat belt for the right-hand seat in the second row may have been put together incorrectly at the factory. A belt that is assembled wrong may not hold the person in that seat the way it should if there is a crash. The belt may look normal and buckle normally, so there is no easy way to tell from the outside whether yours is affected. Dealers will inspect that one belt and replace it if it was built wrong.

The computer that controls braking on these vehicles may have the wrong software loaded. Because of that, safety features that are supposed to step in for you might not work when you need them — including automatic emergency braking, anti-lock brakes that keep the wheels from locking up, stability control that helps the car stay straight, and the brake hold feature. If one of those does not kick in during an emergency, you are more likely to crash. A dealer will reload the correct software for free.

These vehicles have an automatic emergency braking system that watches for people in front of the car. Because of a software error, the system can keep braking longer than it should, even after the person is out of the way. If the car slows down hard for no obvious reason, the driver may hit the brakes too, and the vehicle behind may not stop in time. The dealer reloads the system with corrected software free of charge.
