GMC fuel system recalls: leaks, fire risk and sudden engine stalls
Ten gasoline fuel system recalls split between leaks and stalls, and the GMC Acadia appears in four of them. Leak paths repeat: a high pressure fuel pump that can detach from its mounting flange on 2015-2018 Canyon and 2017-2018 Acadia, a 2020 Sierra 1500 fuel pump missing its pressure regulator, improperly seated fuel supply lines on the 2021 Acadia, a 2021 Yukon tank missing adhesive between its shell layers, an unsealed rollover valve on 2022 Acadia all-wheel drive, and an unlocked fuel pump lock ring on the 2024 Canyon. Stalls trace to pumps as well — a burred jet nozzle on the 2020 Acadia, a failing fuel pump power control module on 2021 Yukon and Yukon XL. Dual-tank Sierra 3500 trucks appear twice, in 2016-2018 and again in 2025-2026.
Warning signs to watch for
- A gasoline smell around the vehicle — several notices treat this as a reason to stop driving immediately.
- Visible fuel or a wet patch under the vehicle after it has been parked.
- The engine stalling without warning while you are driving, or an interrupted fuel supply to the engine.
- On dual-tank Sierra 3500 trucks, a front tank that overfills or a fuel level sensor stuck reading low.
- The rollover valve and lock ring defects produce no symptom at all — they only matter in a crash.
Is it safe to keep driving?
No recall here orders you to stop driving or park outside, but the leak recalls are urgent. Across the high pressure fuel pump, 2018 Sierra 3500 tank, 2021 Yukon tank and 2021 Acadia supply line recalls, GM's line is to get the free repair done right away rather than putting it off, and several notices add that you should stop driving if you smell gasoline. The stall recalls on Acadia, Yukon and Sierra 3500 deserve prompt attention because losing power in traffic invites a crash. The 2022 Acadia rollover valve and 2024 Canyon lock ring matter only in a crash.
What the free repair involves
All repairs are free. Most involve parts: dealers replace high pressure fuel pumps and pipes, fuel pump modules, the fuel pump power control module, and fuel tanks or tank shells. Others start with an inspection — supply lines replaced as needed, the Canyon lock ring fully locked, the Acadia rollover valve checked. The 2025-2026 Sierra 3500 stall fix is an engine control module update at a dealer or over the air.

Why does my Acadia keep turning up in fuel system recalls?

What should I do if I smell gasoline before my repair appointment?

My 2024 Canyon is not leaking — do I still need the lock ring recall?
Yes. The ring securing the fuel pump to the tank may not have been fully locked at assembly, and GM says that can cause a fuel leak during a crash rather than in normal driving. A dealer inspects and locks it free.
