Which Jeep seat belt recalls affect Wrangler, Gladiator and Wagoneer?
Five recalls, and they split cleanly. Two cover front seat belt retractors on the same two models: 2019 Wrangler and 2020 Gladiator, where a retractor may not slow the occupant properly after locking, and 2021 Wrangler and 2022 Gladiator, where an improperly welded micro gas generator can cause pretensioner failure — both shared with Ram trucks. The other three are buckle and anchorage problems: a driver's buckle mounting strap that can fracture and separate from the seat frame on 2011-2018 right-hand-drive Wranglers, a second-row buckle bolt left loose on the 2023 Grand Cherokee, and third-row belts on 2022-2024 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer that occupants may not be able to fasten.
Warning signs to watch for
- The driver's belt buckle pulls loose or separates from the seat frame
- Third-row passengers cannot properly reach or latch the belt into the buckle
- A second-row buckle feels loose at its anchor bolt
- Most of these faults show no warning until a crash happens
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these five recalls tells owners to stop driving or park outside. Keep wearing your seat belts — the notices treat these as crash-time failures, not reasons to leave the vehicle parked. The one practical limit is the 2022-2024 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer third row: because those belts may not fasten at all, avoid seating people there until the buckle is inspected. Everything else, including both front retractor recalls, can be driven while you arrange the free repair.
What the free repair involves
Every repair is free at a Chrysler dealer, and all are hands-on rather than software. Dealers replace the driver's seat belt buckle on right-hand-drive Wranglers, replace the front seat belt retractors on the Wrangler, Gladiator and Ram recalls, inspect and tighten the second-row buckle bolt on the 2023 Grand Cherokee, and inspect and replace the third-row buckle on Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer as necessary.

Common questions
Can I keep using the belts while I wait for the repair?
Yes — keep wearing them. These defects matter mainly in a crash, when a retractor may not slow you properly or a pretensioner may fail. The exception is the Wagoneer third row, where the belts may not fasten at all.
Which Jeeps have the front retractor recalls?
The 2020 recall covers the 2019 Wrangler and 2020 Gladiator alongside Ram 1500 and 2500 trucks; the 2022 recall covers the 2021 Wrangler and 2022 Gladiator with the 2022 Ram 1500. Both replace the front seat belt retractors free of charge.
My Wrangler is a 2018 — does the buckle recall apply?
Only right-hand-drive Wranglers from 2011-2018 are covered. On those, the driver's seat belt buckle mounting strap can fracture and separate from the seat frame, and dealers replace the buckle free of charge. Left-hand-drive Wranglers are not included.
