Nissan fuel leaks and fuel pump failures: which models keep coming up?
Ten recalls that split into two failures. First, gasoline escaping: thin fuel tank walls on the 2020 Versa and 2022 Rogue, a tank punctured during vehicle modifications on another 2022 Rogue, an unlocked fuel line retainer clip and a loose fuel pump lock ring on the 2019 Altima, and a misrouted fuel hose with an unseated lock ring on the 2021 Rogue. Second, stalling: swollen pump impellers in 2020-2021 Armada and Infiniti QX80 V8s, abnormal pump wear on the 2021 Rogue, a chafed Fuel Tank Temperature sensor harness on NV200 and Chevrolet City Express vans, and breaking throttle body gears on 2024-2025 VC-Turbo Rogues. The Rogue appears in five of the ten.
Warning signs to watch for
- A smell of gasoline, or a puddle under the vehicle
- The engine stalls or quits without warning while you are moving
- Sudden loss of driving power (2024-2025 Rogue throttle body)
- On the 2020 Versa, a leak that appears only when the tank is filled over half full
- Several of these can fail with no advance warning to the driver
Is it safe to keep driving?
Not one of these ten notices tells owners to stop driving or park outside, so driving until the repair is acceptable across the group. That said, four are rated critical because a fuel leak means a fire risk, and the 2022 Rogue tank notice is explicit: stop driving immediately if you smell gas or see a puddle under the car. The stalling recalls — Armada and QX80 pumps, Rogue pump, NV200 and City Express harness, Rogue throttle body — allow continued driving but describe an engine that can quit in traffic, so schedule promptly.
What the free repair involves
It depends on the defect, and every repair is free. Leaking tanks on the Versa and 2022 Rogue are replaced, the Rogue with a new lock ring, gasket and o-ring seal. On the 2019 Altima dealers seat the fuel hose and retainer clip, or tighten or replace the lock ring and pump. Failing pumps are replaced, the NV200 harness rerouted, and the 2024-2025 Rogue gets ECM reprogramming plus throttle body replacement as needed.

Common questions
Why does the Rogue show up in so many of these?

Should I avoid filling the tank all the way?
