Can Cadillac brake recalls affect stopping power and warning lights?
Software, not hardware, drives most of these six Cadillac brake recalls. The electronic brake control module is involved four times: 2023-2024 LYRIQ all-wheel drive models whose ABS can activate unexpectedly and release brake pressure, 2019 CT6 sedans that can lose ABS and electronic stability control, 2023 Escalade and Escalade ESV that may fail to display a brake fluid loss warning light, and 2018 Escalade whose mechanical vacuum pump output drops and reduces power brake assist. The two outliers are mechanical: 2018 XTS rear brake caliper pistons that can leave the rear brakes weaker than normal, remedied by bleeding the system, and a 2022 XT6 brake fluid reservoir cap missing its warning label.
Warning signs to watch for
- A brake pedal that gradually becomes harder to press, on the 2018 Escalade
- Longer stopping distances or weaker-than-normal rear braking
- ABS activating unexpectedly and brake pressure dropping away while you slow down
- No warning light when something is wrong — ABS and stability control silently disabled on the CT6, or no lamp for lost brake fluid on the 2023 Escalade
- A brake fluid reservoir cap with no warning label on it
Is it safe to keep driving?
No recall in this group tells owners to stop driving or park outside. The 2023-2024 LYRIQ is the urgent one, since braking power can drop away unexpectedly — take the over-the-air update as soon as it is offered. The 2019 CT6 and 2023 Escalade are serious for the opposite reason: you get no warning light, so do not wait. With the 2018 Escalade and 2018 XTS, expect longer stopping distances and leave extra following distance until the repair. The XT6 cap label is a compliance issue only.
What the free repair involves
Most of these are reprogramming jobs: the electronic brake control module software is updated on the LYRIQ, the CT6, the 2023 Escalade and the 2018 Escalade, and on the LYRIQ and 2023 Escalade that update can arrive over the air instead of at a dealer. The 2018 XTS has its brake system bled, and the XT6 gets its brake fluid reservoir cap inspected and replaced. Everything is free.

Common questions
Will the LYRIQ brake fix come over the air?
It can. GM updates the electronic brake control module software either over the air or at a dealer, free of charge, for 2023-2024 LYRIQ all-wheel drive vehicles. Owner notification letters were mailed September 3, 2024.
Why does a missing warning light count as a brake recall?
Because the light is how you learn something is wrong. On the 2019 CT6, ABS and stability control can be disabled without alerting you; on the 2023 Escalade, a loss of brake fluid may not trigger the lamp.
My XT6 is only missing a label — can I ignore it?
The vehicle is safe to keep driving, but it fails Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 135, and that label is the warning printed on the cap. Avoid opening the brake fluid reservoir yourself and let the dealer replace it free.
