The screen that shows the view behind you when you shift into reverse can turn gray with no camera picture at all. Without that view, it is harder to see a child, a pet, or an object behind the vehicle while you are backing up, which raises the chance of a crash. The fix is a software update for the vehicle's cockpit computer. Cadillac can send it to your Lyriq wirelessly, or a dealer can install it. Either way it is free.
The big high-voltage battery that powers these electric Cadillacs is bolted to the floor of the vehicle. On the ones being recalled, some of those bolts may be missing or not tightened enough. A battery that is not held down firmly can be damaged in a crash, and a damaged electric-car battery can catch fire. Dealers will look at the bolts and tighten or replace whatever is needed, free of charge. Owner letters are going out in September 2025.
The screen in front of the driver can suddenly go dark while you are driving. When it does, you lose the information it shows — your speed, the warning lights that tell you something is wrong with the car, and the backup camera picture when you shift into reverse. Driving without that information makes a crash more likely. GM will fix it with new software for the display's control module, installed either at a dealer or sent to your car over the air.
The bolts holding a front anti-sway bar bracket to the frame may not have been tightened properly when the car was built. Over time those bolts can work loose and come out, letting the bar or its bracket break free underneath the car. A loose bar can then hit and damage the high-voltage cables or the battery cooling lines. If that happens, the car can shut down while you are driving and lose power.
GM found that the owner's manual for some 2025 Cadillac LYRIQ vehicles describes the rear outside head restraints — the padded headrests above the back seats — incorrectly. Following the wrong pictures and instructions, someone could set those headrests to the wrong position. A headrest that is not adjusted properly does not support a passenger's head the way it should, so someone could be injured more seriously in a crash.
On these all-wheel-drive electric Cadillacs, the anti-lock braking system can switch on when it should not and let go of the pressure in the brakes. If that happens while you are stopping, you can suddenly lose braking ability. The fix is updated software for the electronic brake control computer. It can come to the car as a wireless over-the-air update, or a dealer can install it. Either way it is free. Owner letters were mailed in September 2024.
The wires inside the electric motor that drives the rear wheels may not be properly insulated. If two of them touch, the motor can lose power, and the vehicle can stop pulling while you are driving. Because these are electric vehicles, that means no power to the wheels at all. General Motors is fixing it by replacing the entire rear drive unit, the motor package at the back of the vehicle, free of charge at your dealer.
The metal bracket that holds the rear seat belts to the seat frame may have been welded poorly at the factory. This affects the left rear and middle rear belts. If the weld gives way in a crash, those belts may not hold the person wearing them, and they could be badly hurt. Cadillac says nobody should sit in the left rear or center rear seat until it is fixed. A dealer replaces the rear seat cushion frame.
Some 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ electric vehicles received incorrectly set-up software in the module that controls body electronics. Because of this, the vehicle may not make the warning sounds that alert people nearby that a car is approaching. Electric vehicles run very quietly, so these sounds are what pedestrians rely on to hear you coming — especially in parking lots and on sidewalks. The dealer will reprogram the module so the sounds work again.
Some 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and 2022 GMC Hummer EV models have connections inside the big high-voltage battery pack that may be out of position or welded wrong. A bad connection there can cut the power that drives the wheels, so the vehicle can lose the power to move while you are driving. Dealers will open up and inspect the battery pack and replace the whole pack if they find a problem. GM mailed owners a separate letter explaining the safety risk.
A software problem in the module that runs the driver's display can make the instrument panel go completely blank on some 2023 Cadillac Lyriq vehicles. That is the screen in front of you that shows how fast you are going and any warning lights. If it goes dark you lose that information while driving, which makes it easier to speed or to miss a warning about the car. GM will reload corrected software at the dealer.
