Why do Cadillac suspension bolts keep loosening or breaking?
Cadillac's suspension recalls share one theme: fasteners that were not installed or made correctly. In 2022, GM recalled 2022 XT5 and XT6 crossovers, alongside the GMC Acadia, because the left-rear suspension toe link may have been tightened improperly and could come loose or separate. A year later, 2023 Escalade and Escalade ESV models were pulled in with the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL over rear suspension outer control arm bolts that were not properly heat-treated and can break. In 2025, 2023-2025 LYRIQ electric SUVs were recalled for front stabilizer bar bracket bolts that can loosen and separate from the frame. Rear hardware on the 2022-2023 crossovers and SUVs, front hardware on the LYRIQ.
Warning signs to watch for
- Loss of control of the vehicle if the left-rear toe link separates on a 2022 XT5 or XT6
- Sudden shutdown or loss of drive power on a LYRIQ if a detached stabilizer bar damages cables or coolant lines
- Often no advance warning at all — GM says the 2023 Escalade rear control arm bolts can break without warning
- Loose or missing rear suspension fasteners found when a dealer inspects the vehicle
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these three recalls tells Cadillac owners to stop driving or to park outside. GM rates all three as serious, though: a separated left-rear toe link on an XT5 or XT6 can cause a loss of control, the improperly heat-treated control arm bolts on a 2023 Escalade can break without warning, and a detached LYRIQ stabilizer bar can damage cables or coolant lines and shut the vehicle down. Driving until your appointment is acceptable, but book the inspection at the earliest date your dealer offers.
What the free repair involves
Repairs differ by model. On 2022 XT5 and XT6 crossovers, dealers inspect the left-rear suspension and replace the fastener if it is loose or missing. On the 2023 Escalade and Escalade ESV, they replace both rear suspension outer control arm bolts. On 2023-2025 LYRIQ models, they inspect and tighten the left and right stabilizer bar bracket bolts as necessary. All work is free of charge.
