Buying a used 2022 Toyota Tundra? Check these 13 recalls first

13 NHTSA recalls · 428 owner complaints on file

This year carries the heaviest list here: ten recalls, including two critical — a fuel line that can rub through and leak, and an engine that can fail and stall, with engine stall appearing in two separate recalls. Others cover rear axle shafts separating, an electronic parking brake that may not engage, rolling in neutral, and blank or incorrect camera and instrument displays. NHTSA shows 428 unverified owner complaints, dominated by engine (164) and power train (104), with five crashes and three injuries.

Before you buy

  1. Get the 17-character VIN from the seller and run it at nhtsa.gov/recalls. It shows which recalls are still unrepaired on that exact car.
  2. Ask whether the engine recalls were performed and whether the engine was ever replaced or repaired under them.
  3. Inspect the fuel line routing for rub-through and check the rear axle shafts and hubs for play, leaks or noise.
  4. Verify the electronic parking brake holds on an incline, that the truck cannot roll in neutral, and that the backup camera and instrument display work from a cold start.
  5. Open recalls are repaired free at any Toyota dealer, whoever owns the car — an open recall is a to-do item, not a bill.
