Water can get into the housings for your truck's reverse lights — the white lights that come on when you shift into reverse. Moisture inside can make one or both lights stop working. Without them, it's harder for you to see behind you at night, and people walking or driving behind you don't get the usual signal that you're about to back up. Your dealer will replace both reverse light assemblies and fix the wiring if needed, at no cost.
The front and rear tires on the passenger side may have damage on the inner sidewall, which is the part of the tire facing under the vehicle where it is hard to see. Damage in that spot can let a tire lose its air all at once rather than going down slowly. A sudden flat while you are moving can pull the vehicle to one side and make it hard to control. A dealer will inspect the tires and replace any that are damaged.
These Toyotas were sold with accessories added through Gulf States Toyota. When accessories are added, a sticker is supposed to be placed on the vehicle showing how much less weight it can now carry in people and cargo. On these vehicles that sticker shows the wrong numbers. If you go by it, you could load the vehicle heavier than it is rated for. Gulf States Toyota is mailing corrected labels to owners at no charge; nothing on the vehicle needs repair.
When the vehicle is in neutral and no one is pressing the brake pedal, it may move on its own unexpectedly. The vehicle can creep or roll when you expect it to sit still, and that can lead to it hitting something or someone nearby. There is no part to replace: the dealer reloads the software in the computer that controls the transmission, free of charge. Toyota's notice covers the Lexus LX600 under this same campaign as well.
These trucks were fitted with a sprayed-in bed liner, which adds weight. When an accessory like that is added, a label in the vehicle is supposed to be updated to show how much weight the truck can still safely carry. On these trucks, that label shows the wrong number. If you load the truck based on the label, you could put more weight in it than it should carry. Dealers will replace the label free of charge.
A plastic fuel line runs close to the metal brake lines underneath the truck. The two can rub against each other, wearing through the plastic line and letting gasoline leak out. Leaking fuel near anything hot or anything that sparks can start a fire. The dealer's repair adds protective material and a clamp so the fuel line can no longer rub on the brake lines, at no cost to you. Owner letters were mailed November 6, 2024.
Toyota is recalling certain 2023 Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, and Sequoia Hybrid vehicles. The spare tire hangs underneath the back of the vehicle on a steel chain, and on these vehicles that chain may not have been welded well enough. A weak weld can break, which would let the spare tire come loose and fall off while you are driving. Dealers will replace the whole spare tire carrier for free. Owner letters were expected to be mailed August 14, 2023.
Some Tundra and Tundra Hybrid pickups were fitted with a Toyota accessory tonneau cover, the cover that closes off the truck bed. The joints holding that cover to the truck can loosen, and the cover can come off. A cover that separates while you are driving turns into an obstacle in the road for drivers behind you. Dealers will install new mounting hardware, and if the cover is torn or split at the mounting holes, they will replace the whole cover.
A software error in the display unit on some 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks can make the screen directly in front of the driver go blank. When that happens you cannot see how fast you are going, and you will not see the warning lights that tell you something is wrong with the truck — like low oil pressure or a brake problem. The dealer fixes it with a free software update.
These trucks have a camera system that shows different views of the area around the truck. Because of a programming mistake in the control unit, the screen may show the image from the front camera instead of the rear camera when you shift into reverse. That means the display may not show what is actually behind you while backing up. The fix is a software update to the parking-assist computer, done free at the dealer.
The nuts holding the rear axle shafts in place can work loose over time. If they loosen enough, one or both axle shafts can pull away from the axle housing. When that happens, the truck can become unstable and the brakes may not work as well as they should. The dealer will check the rear axle, tighten the nuts to the correct setting, and replace any damaged axle parts if they find them. All of this is done at no cost to you.
